Those seeking peace and quiet and nature will find a delightful mix of timeless design and charming hut flair in a carefully renovated 19th century house with a sense of subtle contrasts in a remote village in the Carnic Dolomites in northern Italy. The landscape here is both rugged and intoxicating, characterised by meadows and forests as well as the surrounding high mountain massifs.
What looks like an old farmhouse from the outside – with a façade made of natural stone, the curved wooden door, wooden shutters and a small brick bench in front – is as modern as it is timeless on the inside. The stacked flats with the evocative names Anima Monti, Sulle Nuvole and Dolce Vita are each divided into one or two bedrooms (the smallest flat, Dolce Vita, only has one bedroom, but has an additional sofa bed in the living area), an open-plan living area with fireplace, kitchenette and dining area. The soul of the old house can be felt everywhere and combines harmoniously with modern elements: Dark slate and wooden floors meet raw stone walls and walls clad in antique wood or waxed tin panels. The customised furniture, such as tables, benches and shelves, also picks up on this combination. The juxtaposition of old and new, of rugged charm and modern simplicity, creates an atmosphere that is both clear and cosy.
The balconies connect the flats with the surrounding nature, with each window offering a different view of the greenery or the houses in the small village. No matter what time of year you stay here – you can go on wonderful tours from the house, whether on foot, by (e-)bike or on skis. And there’s no shortage of relaxation either: in the “Sulle Nuvole” flat, a private sauna invites you to relax, while guests in the other two flats can use the sauna in the garden. Marvellous.
