The house behind the dunes of Big Bay, one of South Africa´s best known surfing beaches, combines clear, straight-lined architecture with the South African beach house style. The house opens out towards the sea with large windows and wooden decks, maximising the spectacular views of Cape Town and Table Mountain, as well as Robben Island. With its open windows the boundaries between inside and outside are blurred. However, despite its airiness and transparency the house also provides protection against wind and the sun: The rooms are grouped around an intimate courtyard and the windows can be closed with sliding timber shutters.
What to do
Surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, beach walks, sightseeing in Cape Town, hiking on Table Mountain, visiting Robben Island, trips to the surrounding area (e.g. Winelands with wineries, De Hoop Nature Reserve).
