In the Brizerhaus old and new meet in perfect harmony. The farmhouse dated to the 19th Century is located in the old centre of the picturesque village of Raumsau in the Zillertal. In a painstaking remodelling, Nathalie Kroll, who inherited her grandparents’ farm, has returned the building to its original state.
The adjoining barn was taken down and replaced by a new apartment house in identical form. The old boards of the barn were re-used as cladding as well as sliding shutters. Since they slide open like barn doors, the building resembles the old wooden barn when the shutters are closed. To leave its facade unchanged, recessed loggias were built instead of balconies.
Inside, old meets new as well, and traditional Zillertal farmhouse rooms and stoves are successfully combined with simple furnishings and modern kitchens and bathrooms.
