Nestled among the vineyards, meadows and forests of Italy’s Piemont region, Cascine Crema is a homestead of old stone houses, some of which date back 300 years. The owners – a Swiss couple who have fulfilled their dream of settling in Italy – saved these old houses from demolition. Once the lodgings of farmers, servants and maids, the homestead’s various stables and barns, storage cellars and wine cellars, chestnut and silkworm huts, were carefully renovated and turned into comfortable holiday homes. The smallest house has space enough for two to three guests, while the largest can accommodate up to eleven. Cooking enthusiasts will enjoy the spacious kitchens. Ingredients come from the numerous markets, from the farm shop or can be harvested from the farm’s own trees and bushes. Once a week the wood-burning oven is stoked for delicious pizza and a dinner is organised by the large pool.
What to do
At the farm: a pool (20 x 14 m) plus a separate children's pool, billiards and a games house, wood-burning ovens, wine and a specialty cellar, foosball table, table tennis, trampoline, mountain bikes, fruit and a vegetable garden.
Outside: jogging, biking, tennis and restaurants in the neighboring village of Bergolo and many other places in the immediate vicinity, riding facilities, excursions to the sea within an hour and wine tastings.
Why we like this house
A unique holiday resort composed of traditional stone houses and offering plenty of recreational facilities.
This house is great for
For families, wine lovers, gourmets, nature lovers.
Originally, Urs and Susan von Arx had only dreamed of spending six months in Piedmont, which they had often explored together since 1991 as lovers of the region, its excellent cuisine and good wine. It eventually resulted in their emigration with their two daughters in 2003. Since then, they have put their heart and soul into rebuilding an entire farmstead and other houses, in the search for ever new tips and experiences for their many dear guests.
