Larix Lodge

The Larix Lodge in the village of La Villa (Stern) in Alta Badia is modern, yet rooted in tradition. The wooden façade, loggia and gable roof relate to the characteristic features of the region’s buildings, but at the same time the building has an independent, contemporary character. Each of the three holiday flats opens up to the southwest with large window fronts and its own outdoor space facing the mountain panorama.

Casa Salvati

Casa Salvati is part of an ensemble of three holiday homes built by the architects Alberto Salvati and Ambrogio Tresoldi in 1972 on a hill on the western shore of Lake Garda. An important element of Salvati and Tresoldi’s work was the use of colour. Thus, the white cube welcomes visitors with a bright yellow staircase. At the back, a cube-shaped blue balcony boldly protrudes from the façade.

Haus Wald

The name gives away the location: The holiday home in Neustift in the Tyrolean Stubai Valley is situated on the edge of a forest. The Stubai Glacier, Austria’s largest glacier skiing area, is only a 10-minute drive away. The house has a modern and clean design both inside and out, yet it is still connected to tradition through the use of local materials such as larch and stone pine wood.

On the Baltic Sea island of Usedom, a family from Berlin built two holiday homes exactly as they wanted them to be: with plenty of space for children and grandparents or friends, a private wellness area and a garden for playing and barbecuing. The houses are located in the Baltic Sea resort of Zinnowitz. The beach is 500 metres away and can be easily reached by passing through a beech forest.

Casas da Vargem

With sweeping views of the sea, Casas da Vargem sit in a sunny location on a hillside above the village centre of Ponta do Sol on Madeira’s south coast. The semi-detached house was built on two stone warehouses that had fallen into ruin. They were reconstructed and supplemented with cubic volumes of similar dimensions that cascade down the terrain, creating patios in between.

Wallpaper House

The house, which was designed by Swedish architect Thomas Sandell for the Wallpaper magazine, was exhibited at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1998. It was then transported to southern Spain and re-erected on a hillside near the coastal town of Tarifa. It is situated between rocky terrain and a pine forest — with sweeping views across the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa.

Villa Mayr

Villa Mayr in Vahrn near Brixen, South Tyrol is a house steeped in history. The building, which is more than 400 years old, used to be the summer residence of the Hotel Elephant in Brixen and was converted into a boarding house in 1878. One of the most famous guests was the composer Gustav Mahler, who is today commemorated by a suite bearing his name. The architecture and design firm bergmeisterwolf has transferred the building into the present and created a symbiosis of old and new.

Mountain world and city life, tradition and modernity—a holiday at Iselhof in Lienz in East Tyrol has many facets. You live in the midst of greenery, but it only takes a few minutes to walk to the centre of the small town. The listed ensemble consisting of a 13th century manor house, a historical Stadl (the former farmhouse) and the contemporary Villa Notsch is situated on a huge plot of land directly adjacent to the glacial river Isel. The historical Stadl was refurbished and converted into residential units. It gives now home to two holiday flats.

Mosel Chalets

The Moselle Chalets in Pommern, one of the oldest wine-growing villages on the Moselle, appeal not only to wine lovers but also to people with an interest in modern architecture. With their straightforward design, the three wooden houses are set apart from the traditional half-timbered architecture of the region. Since it was important to host Holger Maurer to integrate the view of the Moselle valley into the interiors, the houses are completely glazed on the side facing the valley…

Haus am Kellersee

Haus am Kellersee is a Wilhelminian-style villa situated directly on the shore of the second-largest lake in Holstein Switzerland. Situated on the edge of a forest between Eutin and the spa town of Malente, the villa from 1910 has been extensively refurbished and converted. It includes two holiday flats — both furnished in a modern style and with views of the lake, and each with its own character.
