Recharge House Klitmøller

The fishing village of Klitmøller is the centre of Cold Hawaii, a coastal area in the north-west of Denmark that is very popular with surfers. If you want to surf or watch the surfers on the water, it is not far from the holiday home—the beach is only 450 metres away. The L-shape of the cedar-clad house is inspired by the traditional farmhouses of West Jutland. What at first sight looks like one building, are however three units under one roof.

Urfeld 26

The turquoise shimmering lake Walchensee lies virtually at the feet of the Urfeld House. Situated on the edge of the forest at the northern tip of the alpine lake, the house was planned with great emphasis on sustainability. The leitmotif was the use of existing and local materials. Instead of constructing a new building, the dilapidated 1960s house was completely renovated and restructured. The open-plan layout allows for flowing sequences of rooms with exciting visual axes and views into the natural surroundings.

Erlenhof

The Erlenhof in Unterjoch, a mountain village in the Bavarian Allgäu region, is modern and without alpine kitsch, yet firmly rooted in local traditions. The massive wooden building is part of an organic farm and replaces a 370-year-old farmhouse that was destroyed in a fire. During the construction of the house and the design of the apartments, great importance was attached to sustainability.

Architektenhütte Allgäu

You get the best view from high up! The Architektenhütte (Architect’s Lodge) not only sits high up on a steep slope in the Allgäu Alps; in addition, the living area has been laid out under the roof and thus offers the best view of the surrounding mountains and the Iller valley.   The three-storey wooden building, situated in a hamlet adjacent to the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, reinterprets the local traditional architecture in a modern form. With its straight-lined, austere design, the building looks almost like an alp…

Freiform

Below the village of Verdings, architect Martin Gruber has planned an organic free form next to his own farmstead, which will be rented out as an extraordinary guest house. Like a nature observatory in the midst of the South Tyrolean mountains, the contemporary glass pavilion affords a captivating view across the valley. The design absorbs the topography of its immediate surroundings with its glass envelope and blurs the boundaries between nature and building.
