Recharge House on the Danish North Sea coast is the latest project by architect Søren Sarup, who has already built several holiday homes in the small fishing village of Agger.  Located about 600 metres from the sea, the home’s design was significantly influenced by its immediate proximity to a small lake.

Pur-Ostsee

Haus Pur Ostsee on the outskirts of the fishing village of Prerow on Germany’s Baltic Sea coast is a house that comes with a surprise: from the street side, with its timber façade and the typical roof shape with eyebrow dormers, it looks like a traditional Darßer Schifferhaus. But as you move towards the garden it turns out to be a modern building with a room-high window front along the entire garden side.

Turmhaus Tirol

Situated in the Tyrolean Alps, Turmhaus Tirol is built into the gradient of a steep mountain slope and reaches up six floors into the sky. The lower three floors are dug into the slope itself and form the concrete foundation for the wooden structure. Flamed larch boards of different widths, some of which overlap, give structure and character to the façade. The windows, arranged according to functions of each room, also liven up the reduced design of the building, with its wide cantilevered saddle roof.

kleines Vulkaneifelhaus

Kleines Vulkaneifelhaus is a retreat for two in the midst of the unspoilt Eifel landscape in northwestern Rhineland-Palatinate. Situated on a steep slope, this timber house, clad in black charcoal planks, sits atop a plinth of fair-faced concrete. The house appears closed off from the entrance side, and even rather small – an effect created by its few window openings and the low roof on this side.

Solarferienhaus S3

Solarferienhaus S3 (Solar Holiday Home S3) is proof of how an A-frame house dating to the 1970s can be converted into an innovative energy-plus house that – with its modern architectural language and purist interior design – can also appeal to design aesthetes. Located in a former holiday village in Chiemgau, between the Chiemsee lake and Salzburg, the house produces more energy than it uses. This energy surplus can then be used, for example, to charge an electric car or bicycle.

Region/Town: DE – Germany, Bavaria, Chiemgau, Siegsdorf/Vorauf

Dexamenes

A former wine factory on the western coast of the Peloponnese has been given a new lease on life as a chic hotel. The K-Studio architectural office in Athens has brought to light the poetic beauty of 1920s industrial buildings. This transformation of a wine factory into a hotel has preserved the raw character of the architecture, but the modern additions lend the rooms elegance and a contemplative ambience.
