Villa Mayr

Villa Mayr in Vahrn near Brixen, South Tyrol is a house steeped in history. The building, which is more than 400 years old, used to be the summer residence of the Hotel Elephant in Brixen and was converted into a boarding house in 1878. One of the most famous guests was the composer Gustav Mahler, who is today commemorated by a suite bearing his name. The architecture and design firm bergmeisterwolf has transferred the building into the present and created a symbiosis of old and new.

Umamma

In the Umamma apartment in the small Tuscan town of San Miniato, the Middle Ages are combined with industrial style. The apartment is extraordinary and will elicit a “Wow!” from many guests—or “umamma” as they say in Tuscany for something very amazing. It took seven years to restore and transform the rooms located on the first floor of an old 16th century palazzo. The original structure of the interiors was reconstructed and the historical materials were exposed. The back of the building was opened up, and large windows were added to frame the views over the Arno Valley. The 230 sqm flat is unusually generous in size but the truly unexpected space is hidden in the vaulted basement…
