Ustria Steila

Renowned Swiss architect Gion A. Caminada from Graubünden has built a house on a sunny slope in the centre of the village of Siat in the Surselva region. It fits in harmoniously with the village surroundings and still stands out. The Ustria Steila cites the traditional building culture of the region with its lower concrete storeys and wooden log structure on the upper floor.

Maison Bergdorf

A wildly romantic, park-like garden surrounds the Maison Bergdorf in the Swiss town of Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland. The villa was built in 1897 as a holiday home for a Canadian entrepreneur in the traditional chalet style. The owners, Stéphane Houlmann and Mirko Beetschen, have completely renovated the house and have added their own flair to the rooms through an interior design that skilfully plays with colours, shapes and materials.

Hotel Gasthof Krone

The traditional Hotel Gasthof Krone is centrally located at the village square of von Hiltisau in the Bregenzerwald. The typical log building from 1838 was originally a courthouse, but has been used as an inn for 170 years. At the beginning of the 2000s, architect Bernardo Bader carefully renovated the building with great respect for its old structure and extendet it with six rooms. What has been added in a modern way is clearly recognisable, but does not form a contrast, but a harmonious addition to the old. The finesse of the local craftsmen can be seen in every detail in the dining rooms and hotel rooms.

Wenefrieda

Wenefrieda is a typical representation of the modern timber architecture the Vorarlberg province in western Austria is famous for. This longhouse-style holiday home with a saddle roof and wooden façade is based on the traditional buildings of the Bregenzerwald forest. The communal centre of the house is located on the top floor, which is completely lined with wood.
