Rifugio Friulano

Rifugio Friulano is a hideaway in the hills of the upper Italian region of Friuli. Originally the owners had been looking for an old stone house to buy, but they fell in love with this small property on a steep slope north of the town of Udine. Here they built themselves a refuge to retreat to and take a break from everyday life: a simple and archaic wooden house with 35cm thick walls of untreated timber and a copper-clad roof…

Turmhaus Tirol

Situated in the Tyrolean Alps, Turmhaus Tirol is built into the gradient of a steep mountain slope and reaches up six floors into the sky. The lower three floors are dug into the slope itself and form the concrete foundation for the wooden structure. Flamed larch boards of different widths, some of which overlap, give structure and character to the façade. The windows, arranged according to functions of each room, also liven up the reduced design of the building, with its wide cantilevered saddle roof.

La Tour Sarrazine

La Tour Sarrazine in the village of Montaren near the southern French renaissance town of Uzès is a medieval tower dating to the 12th century. The building was restored over the course of five years and transformed into a unique B&B, in which combining authenticity and comfort was of the highest priority. New elements are clearly recognisable as such, but have been designed in a neutral mode that doesn’t steal the limelight from the historic building itself.

Giovi’s Tower

In the small hamlet of Giovi – just a few kilometres from the Tuscan cultural centre of Arezzo – this tower house is perched on a spectacular panoramic spot overlooking the Arno river. Just as unique as its setting is Giovi’s Tower interior: the Aretian architect Roberto Baciocchi – archistar of the international haute couture flagship stores – has lent his holiday home a very personal touch, but his priority was always to preserve the traces of time as well as the original structure of the building.
