Chasa Chaposch

Holiday home Chasa Chaposch

Delicate sgraffito decorates the massive stone walls of the old Engadine house, with its deep-set windows and large round-arched entrance gate. The Chasa Chaposch in the village of Tarasp in the canton of Graubünden is a typical example of regional architecture and reflects the lifestyle of the rural community, which combined living space, stable, and hayloft under one roof. Since the farmhouse had been renovated and extended several times since 1950, the original character of the building had become barely recognizable or tangible. To rediscover its traces and reveal the original structure, the building was largely stripped back to its shell, renovated, and extended with a new living space in the former threshing floor. This new area opens with its large windows not only to the north, east, and west, but also creates a modern contrast to the traditional architecture. In this way, loft-like spaciousness, expansive window openings, light wood, and concrete meet low ceilings, historic beams, small windows, and a wood-paneled parlor. The winding structures of the historic house shape both the old and the new.
The restrained interplay of timeless forms and original elements continues in the minimalist interior, which combines antique farmhouse furniture with contemporary design. This keeps the focus on what truly matters—the history of the house and its surroundings. With its four bedrooms, one bathroom and a separate shower on the upper floor, as well as a kitchen, parlor, and spacious living and dining area in the converted stable, the holiday home is suitable not only for families and friends but also for small retreats or workshops. An idyllic garden with a magnificent view of the surrounding three-thousand-meter peaks complements this place of retreat. Nature lovers can set off directly from here to the Swiss National Park, the picturesque mountain lake Lai Nair, or the wild Clemgia Gorge.

What to do

In summer: hiking, mountaineering, and mountain biking (e.g. in Val Plavna or in the Swiss National Park), an excursion to the mountain lake Lai Nair above Tarasp or to the Clemgia Gorge, family hike on the Dwarf Trail (Via dals Nanins). In winter: skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ski touring, and sledding; visit to Tarasp Castle or the Büvetta drinking hall as well as the entire mineral water and spa culture of the region, excursions to the surrounding villages of Scuol, Sent, and Guarda, art and culture at the Nairs Artist House (center for contemporary art), and a variety of culinary highlights.

Why we like this house

A house with history and a modern “twist” – and with a sensational panoramic view.

This house is great for

For family or multigenerational holidays, as well as for couples or groups of friends who want to enjoy the mountain world of the Lower Engadine – whether active or relaxed; also suitable for small retreats or team sessions.
