Dorfhaus Pinnow

Hills, forests, lakes and lots of stones – this describes the Uckermark region in north-eastern Germany. Erratic blocks, clay and sand have left their mark on the terminal moraine landscape and can be found throughout the region as building material for brick or fieldstone buildings. Stones also play an important role in the design of Dorfhaus Pinnow and give the house its very special ambience.
 
The holiday home is located next to a historical fieldstone church in Pinnow, a district of Gerswalde, which is particularly popular with Berliners. In the past, people and livestock lived under one roof in the former settlement cottage. Today, the building is a 252-square-metre holiday home that has been refurbished in accordance with ecological criteria, featuring a spacious living hall in the former stable. Large window openings that afford views of the garden and the village church, which look as if they are framed, and the exposed concrete ceiling add contemporary details. By contrast, the rest of the house with its small-scale structure has largely been left in its original state. The house provides three bedrooms with each a bathroom for up to six adults and an study with a view of the lake.
 
Throughout the house, the floors are laid with old bricks. The bathrooms are clad with polished bricks. Some walls are of whitewashed fair-faced brickwork, others have a lime finish. The fireplace and the kitchen unit in the living area are built of brick. Fixtures made of oiled oak, patterned rugs and the colour scheme in earthy shades add a soft touch and give the stone environment a cosy feel. So does the underfloor heating! The furnishings are an exciting contrast to the rustic ambience: an illustrious ensemble of design classics, antiques, vintage pieces and contemporary art.
 
The house is situated on a 5000-square-metre site with old fruit trees, a small biotope and a large meadow. There are two terraces – for coffee in the morning or for barbecuing in the evening. An outbuilding houses a sauna, a shower room and a fully functional home theater, as well as further sleeping facilities for four people.
