La Riserva holiday home near the Sicilian Vendicari nature reserve just south of the baroque town Noto offers wide views over the Mediterranean macchia shrublands to the sea 900 metres away. Elegant and archaic at once, this elongated building extends across the spacious property. The linear composition forms a contrast to the gnarled olive trees and prickly pears and simultaneously enters into dialogue with the surrounding landscape thanks to its walls of local stone and broad glass surfaces.
The house is divided into three areas: the rather introverted sleeping wing with elongated window slits, the glass living room, and the terrace area. The rooms are characterised by a contrast of materials: polished concrete floors and raw concrete ceilings meet natural stone, glass and smooth white surfaces. Sliding metal elements in front of the large windows and terrace provide sun protection and offer a fascinating interplay of light and shade. In the living room with its huge panorama windows, the boundaries between inside and out disappear. Furniture and accessories in shades of blue and green take up the colours of the vegetation, the sky and the sea and emphasize the building’s relationship to nature.
La Riserva comprises three bedrooms for a total of six people, an open-plan living room with a fireplace, sitting area, dining area and kitchen, as well as the terrace area with a covered outdoor kitchen and a volcanic stone pool.
