Stable, forge and railway station: the house La Station in Wallonia has experienced various past lives. The latest change is its conversion into a holiday home. The architectural photographers Anne and Jean-Luc Laloux have transformed the building into an architectural jewel. Only a part of the exterior walls and the floor upstairs have been preserved; everything else has been rebuilt and forms – with all its modernity – a harmonious unit with the old structures. Natural materials – blue stone, concrete, rough sawn wood and metal – give the rooms a unique and warm atmosphere, supported by furniture in rustic industrial look and designer pieces (eg chairs by Arne Norell and Kaare Klint).
On the ground floor are three bedrooms, each with private bathrooms. In an annexe, which opens with huge windows to the surrounding meadows, are the kitchen (equipped for semi-professional standards) and a spacious dining area. A staircase leads up to the first floor: here you find a large, loft-like space with fireplace, kitchenette, bedroom and bath. As the house is on a slope, you reach the garden via a few steps down. Here is another bedroom in a garden house with a view of nature. The property is surrounded by pastures and forests. Exceptional are the genuine train tracks with draisine and the old oven for bread / pizza baking.
La Station belongs to the Domaine La Carriere. On the 8-hectare estate there is a quarry that can be booked as a venue or for weddings. On the grounds you will also find another holiday home: Les Duves in an old sawmill directly on the river Burnot combines historic walls with a modern interior.
