The colour black is a popular choice in architecture, but dark facades are not a new trend. Houses were protected from the weather many centuries ago with tar or by flame-scarfing. Today, black is also chosen for visual reasons. The dark colour has a strong graphic effect and emphasises the shapes of buildings.
