La grande bellezza. Palazzo Marconi in the Salentine town of Corigliano d’Otranto takes you back to a bygone era, and not just because of its name. The atmosphere of the South Italian turn of the century still permeates the stylishly renovated palace. From the ornate façade to the Moorish-Oriental windows to the high star vaults and antique floors.
Those who want to spend their holidays in this unique ambience will only have to make their choice between the two beautiful apartments.
Built around 1905 from the sand-coloured limestone Pietra Leccese, the palazzo has been renovated over the last few years with a great deal of respect for its historical substance and regional craftsmanship, and has been carefully complemented with modern design elements and up-to-date living comfort. The handcrafted cementine and terrazzo floors with their antique patterns were not only extensively cleaned, but also equipped with underfloor heating. A literal highlight are the six-metre-high vaulted ceilings, which provide space and light. For the interior design, the owners were inspired by the period from the 1930s to the 1950s. Each piece of furniture is unique and was either restored or custom-made.
Casa San Michele on the first floor is ideal for small families or couples. In addition to a spacious living area, two bedrooms with simple Salentine furnishings, two bathrooms and a convivial kitchen with a modern kitchenette, the double French doors not only offer a view over the rooftops of the city but also access to the terrace.
Likewise, Casa San Antonio opens its French doors out onto the balcony and terrace. The apartment is slightly larger and is suitable for up to five people with its two double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a dining room and a living room. Here, the original wood-burning kitchen has been preserved and combined with a modern cooking island made of Carrara marble. The view extends all the way to the historic old town, which is among the – officially declared – “most beautiful places in Italy”. Dolce Vita guaranteed.
