Penthouse Cordari Ortigia

Penthouse Cordari Ortigia is located in one of the oldest streets of Ortigia, the old town island of the east coast of Sicily, which is connected to the mainland only by bridges. It forms the historic center of the city of Syracuse (Siracusa) with narrow streets, small squares and baroque buildings and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Behind the marina and just a minute from the sea, the Moncado brothers (architect Francesco and photographer Alberto) have transformed an 18th century building into a stylish maisonette apartment. Decorated in bright colors with colorful design classics and numerous artworks on the walls, the apartment is the ideal retreat for a city vacation in Syracuse. 

You enter the house through a private entrance and take the stairs directly to the second floor, where you will find the living room and kitchen. On the second floor are the bedroom and bathroom, as well as the highlight of the apartment: a large, sunny terrace. Here you seem to float above the rooftops and can comfortably listen to the lively hustle and bustle of the old town alleys. All sights and numerous markets are within walking distance, as well as the city beaches where you can go into the sea. In 15 to 45 minutes by car you can reach other beautiful beaches in the area. And so, most likely, it will not take long to join the lively streets after a leisurely breakfast on the terrace. 

What to do

The penthouse Cordari is located less than 100 meters from the marina of Ortigia. In the narrow, winding lanes around the (daily) market place, you can find wonderful local produce and fresh fish. In 15 to 45 minutes by car you can reach various beautiful beaches in the surrounding area of Syracuse (a UNSECO World Heritage site).

Owner

Franceso Moncando is an architect and globetrotter. Together with his wife, the Portuguese Malfada Rangel, he runs the architecture, design and creative agency Moncanda Rangel. He studied in Milan and now lives in the historic center of Syracuse. He knows the city very well and shows his guests on request the hidden places above and below the water.
He designed the penthouse together with his brother Alberto, who is a photographer and diving instructor.
