On the outskirts of Tabing, a small village near Bavaria’s Chiemsee, the outbuilding of an historic farmhouse has been replaced by modern timber architecture. The new building deliberately sets itself apart from the old farmhouse, but its shape, wooden façade and simple design also refers directly to the surrounding barns. The house is a certified passive house; great importance was placed on the use of ecologically friendly and sustainable building materials. Its two holiday apartments, however, are not your typical eco-accommodation: they’ll surprise you with their stylish mix of mid-century classics, antiques from the historic Schmidhuberhof, and modern design elements. Contemporary works of art on the walls and carefully selected accessories contribute to their homely ambience.
Each apartment features an open living area with a large kitchen and dining area, two bedrooms and a bathroom with a rain shower and bathtub. Broad windows let you enjoy wide views over the meadows to the forest and the mountains on the horizon. Both apartments also feature southwest facing loggias. And in the ground floor apartment there is another terrace facing east – ideal for breakfast in the morning sun.

The Chiemgau mountains, golf courses, amusement parks and lakes are all within easy reach. Possible activities: the Chiemsee (steamboat trip, excursion to the islands Frauenchemsee and Herrenchiemsee,) DASMAXIMUM in Traunreut (collection of contemporary art), Roman museum and Celtic farm in Seebruck. Day trips to Salzburg (50 km) and Munich (100 km).

Owner
Nibbling blackberries from the bush, stroking animals, walking barefoot through the freshly mown grass in summer. This is how Daniela Niederbuchner grew up on the historical farm estate Schmidhuberhof, which her parents Kathi and Max Niederbuchner managed until 1987. Since 1993, the former cowshed has served as a design office, studio and restoration workshop for the graphic artist and the painter & restorer Christian Bauer. The Schmidhuber holiday home is the fulfilment of Daniela's and Christian's dream of transforming the old tractor garage into an ideal holiday home. Farming is no longer practised, but the farm cats Zita and Nelly are always happy to get a cuddle—and the berries growing in the garden still taste just as good as in Daniela's childhood days.
