Temple 74 in Mellau in the Bregenz Forest is a new project by Evi and Jürgen Haller. With their renovation of Mesmer House in Bildstein, they showed how an old building can be infused with a modern interior life. The Tempel 74 apartment buildings are new, but they too skilfully combine tradition and modernity, as well as superb architecture and craftsmanship.
The two houses are a good fit for the old village centerof Mellau. House A is a reconstruction of an old farmhouse – true to the original – with typical box and rhomboid windows, shutters, and a facade of wooden shingles. House B interprets the traditional Bregenzwald building culture in a modern style. It features large, asymmetrically arranged windows and a curtain-type wooden facade with open and closed sections. The two houses are connected by an underground car park and a basement floor, which houses a communal lounge. This space combines the elements of a traditional parlour, like a corner bench and a cosy fireplace, with the ambience of a modern lounge. The covered outdoor area in front of the parlour opens up to the village square and its fountain, the meeting place for locals and visitors.
In both houses there are five apartments as well as a sauna with rest area. House A is also home to the architectural office of Jürgen Haller. The apartments are furnished in a minimalist style with straight-lined furniture and radiate both a down-to-earth quality and a distinct elegance. Local timbers – on the floors and some of the walls and ceilings – create a homely atmosphere. Through the windows and from the balconies you can enjoy views of the village square and the mountains.

Houses in a typical Vorarlberg style: architecture and craftsmanship, tradition and modernity, are skilfully combined. A further bonus at the stylish apartments is the cordial service of the hostess Evi Haller.
This house is great for
Families, couples, and groups. The area is an El Dorado for architecture fans, but also grat for nature lovers and sportsmen.
