Ustria Steila

Renowned Swiss architect Gion A. Caminada from Graubünden has built a house on a sunny slope in the centre of the village of Siat in the Surselva region. It fits in harmoniously with the village surroundings and still stands out. The Ustria Steila cites the traditional building culture of the region with its lower concrete storeys and wooden log structure on the upper floor. Modern interpretations such as the exaggerated proportions (the lower concrete storeys extend over two levels) and the structuring and opening of the façade through various window shapes clearly set the building in the present.

Ustria Steila is conceived as a meeting place: Here you can spend the night, enjoy excellent food, taste wines and read about the art and culture of Graubünden in the library. The three guest rooms are on the upper floor of the house. Clad in wood from floor to ceiling, they radiate a homely flair. The straight-line design and minimalist furnishings add a modern touch. Two of the rooms have a double bed and an additional bed; the third room has two more beds on a gallery, in addition to the double bed. In the restaurant, which is also designed without frills, passionate cook Gabriella Cecchellero spoils her guests with culinary delights made from regional and seasonal ingredients.
