With a sweeping view of the valley of the Little Kyll, the Vulkaneifelhaus offers a retreat where, despite the generosity of the architecture, you feel both at home and connected to the surroundings. The location of the house, which is clad entirely in wood, on a south-facing slope provides plenty of sun and light – and at the same time defines the topography of the interior, which is arranged in a spiral around the central fireplace on a total of seven levels.
The different areas of the house merge into one another, each with a slight offset: From the entrance area, you enter successively into the living room, the kitchen with dining area and access to the balcony, a bedroom with bathroom and finally the gallery, which opens up again to the living room below. If you go down from the entrance area in the other direction, you reach the second bedroom (also with a bathroom) and then the garden room with direct access to the terrace overlooking the valley and the orchard in front of it.
The interwoven levels create rooms with very different atmospheres – from more intimate retreat areas to rooms that open up wide. These are visually connected by an understated interior: white wall surfaces alternate with light wooden surfaces, while the colored linoleum floors create a subtle contrast. The modern furnishings are bright and friendly.
The view of the wooded hills opposite will definitely put you at ease – whether after a hike or a city trip, lying on the sofa with a book or holding a glass of wine in your hand, whether in summer or winter.
