Between Walloon meadows, pastures and glistening ponds, the holiday home 10etangs stretches out into the vast landscape – once a shed for agricultural machinery, now an atmospheric place of well-being. The photographer couple Anne Champion and Jean-Luc Laloux have previously discovered other places in the south of Belgium in a similar way, transformed them and made them accessible to guests.
In order to transform the rather unspectacular, elongated building from the last century into modern accommodation integrated into the landscape, the simple metal construction was visibly preserved and recombined with selected materials. The corrugated iron façade is a nod to the regional stables and barns. Inside, steel and concrete dominate, complemented by furniture made from local oak, cosy leather and colourful and surprising details. The dark grey Tadelakt walls form a link between the exposed concrete floor and the wooden ceiling.
A holiday home near the village of Florennes designed for six to eight people. The name (10 lakes) refers to the numerous surrounding bodies of water, which are ideal for swimming or ice bathing at any time of year.
The ground floor features an open-plan living area with kitchen, dining area, lounge corner and fireplace. On summer days, the window front can be opened to the terrace and extends the room outside. Half a floor below is the first double bedroom, complemented by a secluded TV room with sofa bed. Under the roof on the first floor are two further double bedrooms – reduced to the essentials yet equipped with everything you need. If the weather invites you outside, visitors will find a cooking area, a large family table and their own pétanque court to enjoy life in the open air. The only thing left to decide is which spring-fed swimming pond to dive into first. Or would you prefer the wood-fired outdoor whirlpool?
What to do
Bathing and swimming in the ponds on your own property, pétanque, walking and cycling, such as a culinary cycle tour through the Molignée valley, excursions to the Walloon capital of Namur, picturesque Dinant or Givet in the Ardennes, the abbeys of Maredsous and Maredret, the castles of Bioul and Freyr and the gardens of Annevoie and Bambois, canoeing on the Lesse or trips to the pretty neighbouring Walloon towns of Sosoye and Crupet
