casa LUUM

Casa Luum is situated on a property surrounded by a nature reserve in the hinterland of the Algarve. The building was designed by the Portuguese architect Pedro Domingos, who also created the neighbouring house Casa Agostos. Casa Luum is a composition of bright white, geometric structures that interleave and are arranged on two levels around an inner courtyard with a swimming pool.
In contrast to this multiform architecture, the interiors are very simple. White walls, natural materials including natural stone and wood, as well as soft, earthy colours characterise its calm, almost contemplative ambience. The four bedrooms, the kitchen and the dining room are on the lower level and open out to the courtyard through large windows. On the upper floor you will find the living room with views of the nature reserve and access to both the large roof terrace and the garden. Every guest will find their favourite spot in the garden with its native plants and herbs, on the various terraces and patios, or in the courtyard.

What to do

Golf, tennis, shopping centers, spa, beaches, small traditional villages, hiking, fishing, water sports, snorkeling, boat trips, dolphin and bird watching. You can reach a gourmet restaurant (2 Michelin stars) within 25 minutes. Excursions to Seville in Spain (1:45 hrs), Lisbon (2:30 hrs). The natural reserve of Ria Formosa is only 15 minutes away.

Why we like this house

An exciting house with many charming details, like the staircase that leads from the roof terrace directly into the pool, or the exceptional fireplace in the living room. We like the fact that so much emphasis is placed on sustainability and ecology. Thanks to its good insulation, the house does not need air conditioning. The furnishings including the beds, crockery and linens are made by local Portuguese labels.

This house is great for

Holidays with family and friends, away from the hustle and bustle of the Algarve but close to their attractions.

Thank you for this wonderful stay. I’m reading a book called “Silêncio na era do ruído” from Erling Kagge which in this place makes perfect sense and makes the stay a much more enriching experience. How wonderful it is that there are still such places to refuge ourselves from the ordinary. Loved

What a fabulous experience we had in this gem of a house. Time melted away with the purity of materials and careful framing of the environment.

Casa Luum is so beautiful and peaceful we didn’t want to go anywhere else while staying there (we did, but the best moments were at home). The kids loved the pool and how the house had so many little corners to explore, and we loved the peace and quiet (and of corse the amazing exterior and interior design) . Every room was so beautiful it was an experience in itself – the kitchen, the living room, the outdoor shower, the rooftop. Looking forward to coming back really soon. Lovely experience and the nicest people, from Kristoff to Nele. Thank you for the wine and coffee, as well as all the amazing restaurant tips.

Casa Luum is without doubt the most stunning house we have holidayed in to date. It is at one with its beautiful setting and surrounding countryside; a credit to owner Kristoff and his architect. Simply and elegantly furnished with the same attention to detail that we had already experienced in its sister property and neighbour, Casa Agostos, several years back. Remote and deliciously secluded yet still only a short drive from magnificent beaches, the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve (a must!), with plentiful spots to visit and restaurants to enjoy.
The perfect first-day welcome in the capable hands of Fred plus we were luck enough to meet our hosts. Kristoff, it was a pleasure and your passion for the Casa Luum project is infectious. We’re on board!

I doubted whether i should place a comment on “Casa Luum” – not to let out the secret but i decided differently as my heart speaks out loud – still under the spell of our unforgettable stay. Do not know where to start the praise – is it the location? (isolated, impossible to find by GPS) or the moonlit sky? (no artificial light pollution all around except the lit trees in the meadow and the lit pool) the design furniture ?(Hay, Artemide, Eames chairs, Grashopper Lamp /Greta Grossman, Acapulco Chairs to name but a few) so many places to daydream and relax – a daily fight over the hammock – design kitchen to die for (as was the food we prepared) roaming the markets each morning – returning home with our treasures, aperitif on the roof terrace, – squid, fish, lamb … all that is on offer in Cockaigne=Portugal. 1/2 hour drive to stunning beaches (deserted in July !!!) Nele the house manager does any effort to please the guests – the music system can be connected to your I-Phone I-pad or whatever tablet and we danced away the night to our own tunes. Cannot praise it highly enough

Eye Candy wherever you address your eyes to

Without any doubt, the most beautiful house we ever stayed in: the architecture and decoration of the house are (close to) perfect, the pool is a gem (with the beautiful stairway), the roof terrace a dream (watching the starred roof above your head from there is a delight) and the outdoor shower a treat. Communication with owner Kristoff was swift and easy and some first teething problems (we were one of the first guest staying in the house) were dealt with very professionally. And his tips for restaurants, shops and outings were all great.
The only thing that we missed, was a bit of shadow above the outside table, at the hottest moment of the day.
Of course this all comes at a price, but it’s really worth it: we had an unforgettable stay. We would surely want to come back once.
