Let's go to the provinces! Exodus from the city is the new trend. City-weary urbanites are moving to the countryside, and many people are drawn to rural areas rather than metropolises for their holidays. The coastal and Alpine regions are at the forefront of this trend. If you think these areas are too crowded, we have a few suggestions for holiday homes in regions that are worth discovering: in the hinterland of coastal areas, in the flat countryside or in the low mountain ranges.

"Giving old materials a new purpose" is the motto behind the houses we are presenting to you today. Stable doors become window shutters. Wood from the fishing industry is given a second life as a façade. Old pallets and wood from scaffolding are used to make furniture. And the stones of an old farmhouse are now part of a modern holiday home. Our examples illustrate how beautiful resource conservation can be.

The houses in today's newsletter are inspired by Japanese influences. Due to the reduction to the essentials, natural materials and neutral colours, the interiors radiate harmony and peace. Their contemplative ambience invites you to unwind from your hectic everyday life. Here, a relaxed holiday is almost guaranteed!

If you spend your holiday in a tower, you may have to climb more steps than in a bungalow, but in the old water towers, former fortification towers or contemporary wooden buildings you will be rewarded with a very special ambience and a wonderful view. Experience a holiday with Rapunzel feeling

The coasts are crowded, everyone wants to go to the sea, although being by a lake is so beautiful. Water softly lapping against the shore. A view over the glittering water surface. A refreshing swim or a relaxing boat trip. In case you are seized by a longing for lakes: here are holiday homes near a lake. Some are even located directly at the lakeshore and have their own landing stage!

"Less is more" is the motto of the houses we want to show you today. You will not find anything superfluous in them. The architecture impresses with its reduced design vocabulary. Rooms with a simple design and no knickknacks radiate calm and become a stage for the essential. Thus, the view of the landscape or the beauty of materials are shown to their best advantage.

We present houses that tell their (hi)story: When staying in them, you are not just enjoying a holiday in a different place. These houses also take you on a journey through time. The traces of the past are visible and arouse curiosity about the life of the former residents. However, this is certainly not a vacation in a museum — the present is just as evident as the past, and it is precisely this contrast that makes a stay so appealing.

Newsletter Newsletter: Pooches welcome. Their owners too!
Today's newsletter is addressed to the dog owners amongst our readers. Although dogs are not permitted in the majority of our houses, there are some where pooches are very much welcome! All of the houses presented in this issue offer an environment in which you can do a lot with your dog: on the beach, by the river, or in the mountains, activities with dogs are always a lot of fun.

Newsletter Newsletter: Bavaria — a blend of tradition and modernity
Traditions are as vital to Bavarian life as Dirndls are to the Oktoberfest. Bavarians nurture their customs, passing them on from generation to generation and reinterpreting them along the way. This applies not only to their traditional clothing and festivals, but also to their architecture. This month's newsletter will prove that tradition and modernity need not be mutually exclusive – in fact they can complement and enrich each other.

Staying in an historic manor house doesn't just mean visiting a new destination – it's also a little journey through time. These buildings are steeped in history, and the splendour of bygone eras lingers here in these noble mansions with their spacious parks and ornate gardens. Today, we would like to present a selection of estates, each with their own entirely unique style and atmosphere: three in Germany – in the states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Rhineland-Palatinate, respectively – one on the island of Mallorca, and another in northern Portugal.

Newsletter Newsletter: Lakes ahoy!
What an incredible summer we’ve had! These temperatures are best enjoyed by the water, so today we thought we would present you with some of our finest lakeside holiday retreats. At one or two of these you’ve got the lake right at your doorstep. They are also some of the best places to survive the heat: you can sit on the jetty with your feet in the water, cool off with a dip in the glistening lake, take a boat tour or glide across the ripples on a stand-up paddle board. But these holiday homes are not just worth the trip in summer, because the views of the water from these houses are beautiful all year round.

Now that the weather is getting colder, why don’t we follow the birds of passage and take ourselves off to sunnier southern climes. In the Canary Islands and Madeira, the temperature is pleasant even in autumn and winter. Of course, it does rain every so often, but it won’t get any lower than 15 degrees. Anyone holidaying in the sunny south of Gran Canaria and Tenerife might even expect it to be warm enough for swimming. Each island is different and has its own particular charm. Just like the holiday homes we have chosen!
