Chalet al Mött is located on a rocky outcrop above the Leventina Valley in Ticino near the village of Nante at an altitude of 1,400 metres. Surrounded by forests and mountain peaks, it stands alone on a wide meadow. The house was designed in the middle of the last century by Alberto Camenzind and Bruno Brocchi. The two architects were members of the Ticino School, a group dedicated to the renewal of modern architecture with a local reference. It was thus directed against the destruction of the Ticino landscape through land speculation as well as against a commercial, alienated modernism.
The granite façade and softwood interior are typical of the regional architectural style, while the building structure follows the topography of the site and takes up traditional typologies.
On two levels and 170 square metres, the holiday home offers space for eight people. You enter the house on the upper level: here you will find the living room with a large dining table, the kitchen, which was renovated just a few years ago, a large lounge area with a fireplace and a sleeping alcove. There are four double bedrooms and two bathrooms on the lower level. The interiors are clad entirely in wood and furnished with simple furniture designed by the architects. The interior is purist – brass wall and pendant lights and artworks by artists such as Max Bill and Remo Rossi set beautiful accents.
Located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, Ticino offers classic mountain adventures and other outdoor opportunities as well as a touch of the Mediterranean. In the nearby towns of Ascona, Lugano or Locarno and the surrounding villages, you will find medieval and baroque architecture, plenty of culture and palm-lined streets.
