Mini­malism in a heritage-listed glass grinding and poli­shing factory: in Murnthal in the Upper Pala­tinate Forest Nature Park, the two puristi­cally and sty­lishly fur­nished Mit­ter­murnthal holiday apart­ments invite you to take a break.

The former indus­trial site is idyl­li­cally situated directly on the Schwarzach river, sur­rounded by ancient forests and green meadows. Until the beginning of the 20th century, Ger­many’s largest glass grinding and poli­shing industry was located in this region, but today it pro­mises tran­quillity and pure nature. The his­to­rical estate, a three-sided complex, con­sists of a resi­dential building from 1913, the former glass warehouse and the former fore­man’s building and is sur­rounded by an extensive, lush park with mature trees.

Both holiday apart­ments are located in the villa, the façade of which tells a cen­turies-old story with its roofed, arched and bay windows. The smaller of the two, “Schleif” [Grind] apartment, is accessed from the cour­tyard via an old wooden staircase and offers 100 square metres of space for two people. The com­for­table fur­nis­hings and mini­malist interior form a beau­tiful con­trast to the his­to­rical building structure – har­mo­nising with it in a quiet and stylish way. The carefully sel­ected modern fur­niture and fit­tings are pre­do­mi­nantly white and grey, while the res­trained colour scheme creates a calm ambience. The mono­lithic, white bed with inte­grated wash­basin at the head­board is par­ti­cu­larly eye-cat­ching.

The purist style can also be found in the second apartment, “Polier”[Polish] which at 140 square metres is sui­table for two adults and two children (there is a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room) and offers direct access to the terrace and the sur­rounding park. The design and colour scheme of the interior are similar to those of the other apartment. Here, too, a con­crete floor throughout pro­vides clarity and calm, a large wooden table creates a warm con­trast, a few large-format pic­tures and indi­vidual tex­tiles set colourful accents.

The spa­cious, almost enchanted outdoor area borders directly on the small river. In addition to the terrace, there are various seating areas and cosy corners in the park – everyone, is sure to find a sui­table spot here.

The Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park with its forests, meadows and river landscapes is ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities – whether hiking, cycling or fishing. Popular destinations for excursions include the city of Regensburg, recognised as a World Heritage Site, historical Nuremberg and nearby Bohemia with the cities of Pilsen and Prague.
