Minimalism in a heritage-listed glass grinding and polishing factory: in Murnthal in the Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park, the two puristically and stylishly furnished Mittermurnthal holiday apartments invite you to take a break.

The former industrial site is idyllically situated directly on the Schwarzach river, surrounded by ancient forests and green meadows. Until the beginning of the 20th century, Germany’s largest glass grinding and polishing industry was located in this region, but today it promises tranquillity and pure nature. The historical estate, a three-sided complex, consists of a residential building from 1913, the former glass warehouse and the former foreman’s building and is surrounded by an extensive, lush park with mature trees.

Both holiday apartments are located in the villa, the façade of which tells a centuries-old story with its roofed, arched and bay windows. The smaller of the two, “Schleif” [Grind] apartment, is accessed from the courtyard via an old wooden staircase and offers 100 square metres of space for two people. The comfortable furnishings and minimalist interior form a beautiful contrast to the historical building structure – harmonising with it in a quiet and stylish way. The carefully selected modern furniture and fittings are predominantly white and grey, while the restrained colour scheme creates a calm ambience. The monolithic, white bed with integrated washbasin at the headboard is particularly eye-catching.

The purist style can also be found in the second apartment, “Polier”[Polish] which at 140 square metres is suitable for two adults and two children (there is a separate bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room) and offers direct access to the terrace and the surrounding park. The design and colour scheme of the interior are similar to those of the other apartment. Here, too, a concrete floor throughout provides clarity and calm, a large wooden table creates a warm contrast, a few large-format pictures and individual textiles set colourful accents.

The spacious, almost enchanted outdoor area borders directly on the small river. In addition to the terrace, there are various seating areas and cosy corners in the park – everyone, is sure to find a suitable spot here.

The Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park with its forests, meadows and river landscapes is ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities – whether hiking, cycling or fishing. Popular destinations for excursions include the city of Regensburg, recognised as a World Heritage Site, historical Nuremberg and nearby Bohemia with the cities of Pilsen and Prague.
