On the Baltic Sea island of Usedom, a family from Berlin built two holiday homes exactly as they wanted them to be: with plenty of space for children and grandparents or friends, a private wellness area and a garden for playing and barbecuing. The houses are located in the Baltic Sea resort of Zinnowitz. The beach is 500 metres away and can be easily reached by passing through a beech forest. The town centre with its restaurants and shops is also within walking distance. Great importance was attached to sustainability. The timber frame houses are insulated with ecological materials and have untreated larch wood façades.
The buildings are arranged in an L-shape so that each house has private, sheltered outdoor areas. The floor plans are identical except for the different positioning of doors, windows and terraces. Each house provides 140 square metres of space for up to eight people. Special attention was paid to creating retreats and enough space for different activities. The kitchen with dining table, bench and upholstered chairs can be separated from the lounge area with a door. This means you can cook and listening to music, while others watch a film or enjoy reading in the living room without being disturbed — the fireplace is visible from both areas.
In fine weather, you can eat on the roofed terrace, which is accessed directly from the kitchen. The bathroom on the ground floor is a private wellness area, featuring sauna, rain shower and bathtub with a whirlpool function, underwater light and music that invites you to escape from everyday life. The first floor comprises four bedrooms (three with double beds, one with bunk beds) and two shower bathrooms. The staircase and wooden furniture have been custom-made from solid oak by a carpenter. Linen curtains and woollen carpets create a cosy atmosphere, while the calm colour scheme and straightforward design lend the interiors a modern look.
