Consistently green in thought: an aesthetic statement for future-oriented building that looks brightly into today and tomorrow.
How to build in order to meet current needs without compromising those of future generations? For the design of the two atelier houses A and Z in the midst of the sweeping, green-blue Five Lakes region in Bavaria, Arnold / Werner Architekten have realized a wholesome concept of architecture, interior and garden design.
Even from the outside, the lush green façade already reveals the principle behind every detail. In addition to the use of recycled, local and organic building materials – from the wood for the supporting structure and the interior fittings to the furniture and textiles – the garden ensures biodiversity with regional plants, trees and a flower meadow.
With four bedrooms, Atelierhaus A is suitable for a larger group or two families with up to eight guests. As the old structure of the original bungalow could not be preserved, the new building picks up on its original form, reinterprets the local farmhouse aesthetic with a wraparound balcony and blends in with the surrounding architecture. Inside, partly large, partly round windows provide plenty of daylight and views. The first floor with entrance hall, an inviting, airy living and dining area with kitchen island and view of the garden as well as a separate bedroom celebrates the sense of community. On the upper floor, which can be reached via an open staircase in the center of the room, there are three further double bedrooms. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake and the Alps. In the garden the sauna house waits for guests in the mood for relaxation.
With its single-storey wooden construction, the smaller Atelierhaus Z is reminiscent of the traditional boathouses of Lake Ammersee and is suitable for families or friends of up to four people. The open-plan living space offers plenty of intriguing views to the outside.
The walls of both houses are clay plastered or clad in wood. The interior design is an exciting mix of sleek Japanese and colorful South American aesthetics. An atmospheric and well conceived concept, which encourages the exchange of future shaping ideas in the occasionally hosted “Salon of Sustainability”.
