Ferienhaus Ca’ dei Mongi in Gardasee, Brenzone / IT – Italy

Holiday home Ca’ dei Mongi

A rough natural stone ‘floats’ above the freestanding kitchen block made of steel, as if it had always been there. Right next to it is a height-adjustable platform that serves as both a sofa and a dining area. Behind it, a unrivalled view of the entire Lake Garda opens up. The kitchen-diner is just one of many atmospheric spaces at Ca’ dei Mongi. The property, surrounded by olive groves, is tucked away from the roads and bustling towns of Lake Garda between Brenzone and Monte Baldo in what were once vineyards. A quiet, secluded spot, yet not far from the eastern shore and its activities.
Two old stone houses were renovated by Daniela and Alv Kintscher according to the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi and transformed into a hideaway that, in keeping with the Japanese aesthetic, emphasises the beauty of imperfection and transience. As designers specialising in high-quality interior design, they conceived the entire renovation and concept themselves. Always with the question of whether every detail is truly beautiful, aesthetic and pared down.
As Wabi-Sabi considers that the beauty of objects arises from their patina, materials were used that allow natural ageing and may show signs of wear over time, such as old wood, stone, concrete and steel.
The two houses can comfortably accommodate a total of 12 people.
The larger rustico has a master bedroom, a double bedroom with an alcove and a bathroom on the upper floor, and another guest room for two people on the lower floor. The kitchen with an open fireplace and the sofa platform with a height-adjustable table is located on the ground floor and opens directly onto the covered terrace with a large dining table and lounge area with pool.
The second house also has a double bedroom with a glassed-in loggia, a living room with a small cinema for rainy days, an open fireplace and a gallery with four additional beds. A sauna, a yoga platform with a view over the lake and a small ‘amphitheatre’ for retreats or events complete the property. There is even a Land Rover available for the adventurous, which is also necessary, as the steep driveway to the house can only be navigated with an off-road four-wheel drive vehicle. Apart from that, Ca’ dei Mongi is all about arriving and simply being. Despite its openness to imperfection, there are plenty of perfect moments waiting to be captured.

Owners of Ca’ dei Mongi

Owner

We, Daniela and Alv Kintscher, love and live good design, aesthetics and minimalism. The Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi is a way of life for us and the basis of our inspiration. While searching for a small olive grove for our renovated vintage Airstream, so we could kite as much as possible near the shores of Lake Garda, we found this wonderful place. The small olive grove has now grown a little larger, and in addition to the Airstream, we have also renovated these two wonderful rustici. Sometimes things turn out differently than you think, and we are incredibly happy and grateful to be able to share this place with as many appreciative people and guests as possible.
