A pound of flour, butter and four apples, please! Standing in the kitchen of Greisslerei Gösing brings back childhood memories. But instead of a miniature version, guests can enjoy the furnishings and ambience of a real merchant’s shop. Where freshly baked rolls were once served over the counter, today you can cook or prepare breakfast. The restored shop shelves are integrated into the kitchen and stocked with regional products. You sleep in a setting with historical flair, and outside the door you are immersed in the familiar atmosphere of the small village. The holiday home is located on a steep slope in the heart of Gösing am Wagram, a wine-growing village in Lower Austria. Right in the middle of it all, yet somehow on its own.
After standing empty for a long time, the Greisslerei – once the village’s central meeting place – was sold and given a new lease of life by organic winegrower Daniela Vigne and her husband Toni Söllner. Since then, the building has offered up to six guests a retreat that preserves the spirit of the old Greisslerei. Preserving the existing structure and using resources sustainably were the focus of the renovation. In addition to clay plaster and ash wood flooring from their own forest, the entire interior, most of which has been reused, is inspired by the heyday of the grocery store between the pre-war years and the 1960s. The fact that nothing here is off the shelf, but that every detail has been carefully selected, is also evident in the kitchen equipment, some of which consists of leftover goods.
The former sales room on the ground floor now houses the kitchen-diner with its old roller door and cosy fireplace, along with two double bedrooms and two new bathrooms. The third bedroom on the upper floor is only accessible from the courtyard via an iron staircase and is only used in summer. Depending on the season, the sheltered courtyard and the terrace above invite you to eat, relax and sunbathe behind flowing white curtains. And, of course, in a wine-growing village, a tasting at the in-house winery is a must.
What to do
Hiking and cycling (e.g. to the Fels am Wagram, Engabrunn or Eisenhut viewing points, along the Hammergraben wine and nature trail, and many other small discoveries), wine tasting (e.g. at our own organic winery or at one of the other wineries in Gösing), eating out (up to 15 award-winning restaurants are within 30 minutes' reach), culture (e.g. visit the baroque parish church or the Fels am Wagram local history museum), reading and relaxing, Grafenegg is 10 minutes away by car, Vienna 40 minutes.

Owner
Daniela Vigne has not only been an organic winegrower for 30 years and runs the Söllner Winery with her husband Toni Söllner, she also has a fondness for old buildings. When the Greisslerei was up for sale, the couple purchased the former village shop in 2015 and spent seven years renovating it themselves to turn it into a place of well-being for people who are self-sufficient.
