Ferienhaus Haus Kienzerleweg in Bad Kohlgrub / DE – Germany, Bavaria

Holiday home Haus Kienzerleweg

Bad Kohlgrub, Germany’s highest moorland spa, lies in the Ammergau Alps Nature Park, at the foot of the Hörnle. Set amidst Alpine panoramas and mountain pine high-moor spas, Bavarian flair and a modern lifestyle, the Kienzerleweg holiday home offers a holiday for the senses. With its purist, timeless design language and consistent use of wood, it is a successful example of how contemporary architecture and Alpine tradition fit together quite naturally.

The building structure is constructed in solid timber from the top of the basement upwards and, with its façade of untreated wooden slats, blends into the topography and village scenery. A tribute to regional building traditions – yet without nostalgia, but with a fresh signature. No colourful geraniums, no mural paintings, no ornaments. Just pure form and materiality. An aesthetic that continues inside. Here, too, there are neither pictures on the walls nor a fireplace or farmhouse cupboard to disrupt the flow. The rooms, with their oiled oak floors, untreated solid timber walls and white walls, feel harmonious. All this is combined with exposed concrete, minimalist furnishings and handcrafted details.

In addition to the physical connection with nature, generous south-facing windows open the house up to the surrounding landscape. The positioning and height of the windows have been carefully chosen to ensure that the view always takes in the beauty of the Ammergau Alps. The lighting design has been tailored to the specific layout of each room and enhances the calm, relaxed atmosphere.

The large living area on the ground floor comprises an open-plan kitchen and a living and dining room, separated by a ‘wall cupboard’ that serves as a piece of furniture in the kitchen. Sleeping accommodation is provided either on the upper floor or in the basement, each with two double bedrooms. Upstairs, there is also a small, contemplative reading room with a view. To extend the living space, the ground floor opens directly onto the south-facing terrace or into the garden – with unobstructed views of the Ammergau Alps.
