Holnis22 near Glücksburg and the Flensburg Fjord is elegantly understated. In order to let the architect’s house from 1961 live on, the architect and designer Sönke Martensen has continued to develop the existing building. With a great deal of sensitivity, the original idea of the house was uncovered and transformed with just a few interventions.
From the outside, the white-painted clinker brick reflects the dense greenery that extends from the house to the nature reserve of the Holnis peninsula. Due to the hillside location, the generous living space is spread over two levels and, together with the extensive garden, offers plenty of space. The rooms, some of which merge into one another without doors, are as seamless as the interior arrangement. Here, too, what has been obstructed over time has been uncovered. The ground floor corresponds to the upper floor, where there is a bedroom with bathroom, a living room with vintage sofa and fireplace, a library with reading lounge and an open-plan eat-in kitchen. After dinner, you can sink into the armchairs of the adjacent lounge, which is available for yoga or indoor rowing sessions as well as movie nights. On the lower floor there is another bedroom with en suite bathroom and direct access to the terrace, a children’s room and a desk that allows for quiet time to work.
Every room opens up with expansive, magnificent views of the landscape. Only in front of the door does it get even more airy and green. Whether under a parasol, while dining in the garden or on the way to the white sandy beaches of the Flensburg Fjord, which can be reached on foot or by bike just across the adjacent forest.
