Green as far as you can see – from Haus Hube the view extends far over the hilly landscape of Eastern Styria. The holiday home, together with several outbuildings, is situated on a 45,000-square-metre plot with an orchard and flower meadow, an (organic) chokeberry field and its own forest. The modern new building makes reference to the history of the place. On the one hand with its name, which is the traditional term for the size of an agricultural estate. On the other hand, by adopting the cubature and orientation of its historical predecessor, a simple farmhouse destroyed by a storm.
The longhouse, covered by a gable roof, has a living space of about 95 square metres and a 55-square-metres terrace. The house is nearly closed on the northern entrance side and opens up towards the south with many windows overlooking the valley. Just like the exterior, the interior is timeless and understated. The combined living, dining and cooking area with a fireplace extends up to the ridge and visually expands into the landscape through the windows on two sides. Windows also connect the other rooms—two bedrooms, a reading/bedroom and the bathroom–with nature and the terrace. The furnishing, with only a few selected pieces of furniture and custom-made built-in units, is clear and unpretentious. Felting as curtains and bedheads convey warmth, colours loosen up the serene atmosphere. Around the house there is plenty of space for children to play. The fruit trees invite to nibble and also to climb them.
What to do
Extensive hikes in the vineyards and orchards in the surrounding area, visits to thermal baths, castles and palaces, culinary delights of the fertile region of the Styrian Volcanic Region, excursions to traditional, regional taverns (Buschenschänke) and oil mills, art and culture of the City of Graz, the weekly market in Gleisdorf with its regional produce.
Why we like this house
We like the plain and beautiful style, the spatial effect of the living area and master bedroom with their high ceilings and the sweeping views of the landscape.
This house is great for
Couples, families, nature lovers, foodies
