The Valle d’Itria, stretching from Bari to Brindisi and Taranto, glows green and white. A fertile, hilly valley with centuries-old olive groves, almond trees, vineyards and whitewashed towns and villages such as Ostuni and Cisternino. Nestled between them is the holiday home iL SALTO, a restored Lamia (a typical Apulian cubic stone building) that served as an agricultural warehouse on the former estate. A compact structure with thick natural stone walls and a characteristic domed roof, it is the only building of the dilapidated ensemble to have been preserved and has been extended with a sensitively integrated new building. A special highlight are the spacious terraces, which add further ‘rooms’ to the building.
The rugged beauty of the landscape, its authentic materials and the interplay of light and shadow served as inspiration for the design – from the clear architecture and its understated forms to the flowing transitions between inside and outside.
The holiday home can accommodate six people with three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large living room with an open-plan kitchen and dining table. Bathing and showering take place partly between old stone walls in the former Lamia, a particularly atmospheric place. Or in the pool on the sun terrace. Because, ideally, the days unfold here or one terrace below. There, guests will find a spacious, comfortably equipped outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and sheltered dining area, inspiring culinary feats and long conversations under the Apulian starry sky.

What to do
Swimming in the pool, relaxing and reading in the various shaded and sunny spots on the terraces and under the olive trees, hiking and biking, trips to the sea (approx. 25 minutes) or to the numerous impressive towns – from Ostuni to Cisternino, Locorotondo, Martina Franca and Alberobello, which are famous for their whitewashed houses and trulli.

Owner
Ten years ago, Margot Gerené and Dennis Coenen fell in love with Apulia and the simple, authentic architectural style of the region. With iL Salto, the couple has created another home that reflects their enthusiasm for minimalist architecture - in Amsterdam they live in a house designed by a Japanese architect. Their symbiotic home in Apulia with its rustic charm and sleek modernity is the perfect complement and contrast.
