Simplicity, peace, space and light: La Ferme de Brouage hides like an enchanted garden in the green hinterland of the Atlantic coast and merges old walls with sophisticated architecture, French charm and farm-fresh vegetables.
In the heart of the Charente Maritime, just 30 minutes from the Côte Sauvage with its wild beaches and legendary surf spots, lies the charming village of La Gripperie Saint Symphorien. Between protected marshes, vineyards and the picturesque old walls of you’ll find La Ferme de Brouage — an 18th century farm ensemble, that a couple from Paris and a Swedish architect have kissed awake and transformed into an organic vegetable farm with a spacious garden and five magnificent accommodations. Anyone who passes through one of the old entrance gates enters a world of its own. Not only do the most colorful flora and fauna reign here, but also a lively connection with nature.
Four of the lodgings are located in a former outbuilding of the complex, which has been renovated using only natural materials and transformed into spacious, light-flooded gîtes with open-plan living and cooking areas, high ceilings, huge window openings and ingenious shielding walls. In addition to the use of clay, concrete, hemp and lime plaster, all the furnishings, manufactured by the owners themselves, are made of wood. Uncovered details from days gone by can be found everywhere while old, gnarled exposed beams intersect the simple and timeless interior design. A subtle and flowing fusion of old and new, in light, harmonious colors. All accommodations differ in size and are kept simple yet have everything you need. Whether you are on holiday with family, friends or a larger group. The fourth accommodation is suitable for up to 14 people and has its own small library on the mezzanine floor. The fifth apartment is not located in the barn like the others, but in a former dovecote, with a fantastic view of the fields and the centuries-old yew trees.
Each of the residences has access to the shared swimming pool and the extensive garden, where guests can harvest their own fruit and vegetables. Around 2,000 new trees and shrubs have been planted here. In addition to farming, the host family regularly organises cultural events on the farm — always in harmony with the rhythm of nature, which takes centre stage here.

Walks in the moor, lazing on the beach, surfing and kite surfing on the wild coast (30 minutes' drive away), swimming in the pool, harvesting your own vegetables, helping with the gardening if you like, cultural events on the farm - from concerts, open-air cinema and performances to children's and art workshops and training courses for budding farmers, excursions to Rochefort, Marennes, Royan, Saintes or by boat to the Ile d'Aix and the Ile d'Oleron.

Wir (2 Erwachsene, 2 Teenager und 1 Hund) haben Anfang August eine Woche auf der Ferme bei Antoine und Hanh im Gite1 verbracht und wir hatten eine ganz wunderbare und in jeder Hinsicht aussergewöhnliche Zeit. Die Räumlichkeiten sind wunderschön und auf der ganzen Ferme herrscht eine chillige und lässige Atmosphäre, die sich sofort auf alle Anwesenden überträgt. Antoine und Hanh sind überaus freundliche Gastgeber und bei der Ankunft steht bereits eine Gemüsekiste mit Köstlichkeiten in der Küche. Es macht sehr viel Spass, täglich Tomaten, Auberginen, Fenchel, Melonen und Kräuter selbst zu ernten und sich im Hühnergehege frisch gelegte Eier fürs Frühstück zu holen. Eine entzückende kleine Bäckerei ist in unmittelbarer Nähe, wo man sich mit Croissants und Baguette eindecken kann. Auch die Ausflugsmöglichkeiten ab der Ferme sind phantastisch. Antoine und Hanh haben viele Tips für die schönsten Strände am Atlantik, Austernfarmen, Märkte und die besten Restaurants von einfach bis 3 Michellin-Sterne. Wir waren nur eine Woche dort, aber wir wären gerne noch viel länger geblieben!
Mit lässiger Gastfreundschaft wurden wir willkommen geheissen an einem Ort, den wir eine Woche lang entdecken konnten. Hühner füttern, Gemüse ernten, die Marennes, die Inseln, die Atlantikküste besuchen, den hilfreichen Tips folgen und immer wieder ankommen in einem Haus voller Licht, fast klösterlich reduziert. So hatten unsere Kinder und unsere Gedanken freie Bahn. Merci infiniment, Hanh et Antoine!
We spent a few wonderful, cozy autumn days on the farm. Hanh Claire and Antoine have created a truly special place here. The apartments are incredibly beautiful and tastefully decorated, spacious, perfectly equipped, and built with natural materials. We loved being able to harvest autumn vegetables from the field each day and gather fresh eggs from the chicken coop, cooking with them right in our large kitchen. Even though it’s already fall, the selection of fresh vegetables was still plentiful, and we learned so much about the farm from Antoine. We enjoyed our evenings by the fireplace, cooked healthy meals, went on great excursions to the islands, and ate lots of oysters. :) And our kids already miss the two dogs. Antoine and Hanh Claire are such wonderful, friendly, and helpful hosts, always offering the perfect tips. Thank you so much—we’d love to come back!
Wir haben eine wunderschöne Woche auf dem Bauernhof von Antoine und Hanh verbracht. Dank Ihrer bereits vorab gesendeten Tips konnten wir den Aufenthalt gut vorbereiten. Dieser Ort versprüht einen wunderbaren Spirit, und das Ziel der Gastgeber eine Brücke zu schlagen zwischen Stadt und Land gelingt spielend. Das zeitlose, minimalistische Design gepaart mit der Ursprünglichkeit der Gebäude macht den Aufenthalt zu einem wirklichen Erlebnis. Wir waren mit unseren Teenie-Töchtern und unserem 8‑jährigen Sohn dort, welcher sich pudelwohl gefühlt hat. Draussen spielen, mithelfen bei den anstehenden Arbeiten im Garten oder Muscheln zählen auf dem wunderbaren Sitzplatz vor unserer Ferienwohnung — Antoine, Hanh und Ihre Helfer waren unkompliziert und sehr hilfsbereit.
Auch wir durften Gemüse selbst ernten, frische Eier holen und Kräuter ernten. Die grosszügig gestaltete Küche mit allem, was man braucht, war herrlich für unser Familienessen.
Die wunderbare Natur um den Hof, aber auch die Möglichkeit das Meer zu geniessen, haben uns ausgesprochen gut gefallen. Danke Antoine und Hanh für Eure Gastfreundschaft und wir sind beeindruckt von dem, was Ihr in der kurzen Zeit geschafft habt!!!
Genau der richtige Mix aus neuer, stilvoller Architektur und authentischem Bestand mit viel Grün. Vor den Wohnungen hat jeder reichlich Platz mit großem Tisch und Liegestühlen um die entspannte Atmosphäre genießen zu können. Die Kinder haben insbesondere den Pool und die Gemüseholaktionen mit Abstecher zu den Hühnern geliebt.
Auch das Konzert vor Ort war total nett und locker und hatte uns am Ende nochmal den Spirit von diesem besonderen Ort von Antoine und Familie passend vermittelt.
Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt auf der Ferme de Brouage sehr genossen! Es war sehr ruhig und entspannt. Der Pool tat gut zur Abkühlung! Wir haben sehr viel gemeinsam als Familie gekocht in der wunderschönen Küche der Wohnung. Das frische Gemüse, welches à la discretion aus dem Garten geerntet werden durfte, hat uns immer wieder zu neuen kulinarischen Höchstleistungen animiert. Die Besitzer sind auf dem Hof sehr engagiert und nett. Die Hunde Tofu und Socrates immer für ein Spässchen bereit.
Wir hatten das große Glück, unseren Urlaub an diesem außergewöhnlichen Ort zu verbringen und können ihn nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen. Die Farm ist ein ebenso ruhiger, wie lebendiger und authentischer Ort, der eine besondere Atmosphäre aus französischem Charme und Naturverbundenheit ausstrahlt. Die Wohnungen sind architektonisch außerordentlich ansprechend gestaltet.
Schon beim Betreten spürt man die Ruhe und Gelassenheit, die von diesem Ort ausgehen. Besonders beeindruckend ist der bewusste Umgang mit Nachhaltigkeit, der sich in vielen Details zeigt. Reduktion auf das Wesentliche und Suffizienz stehen im Fokus, ohne dass es an etwas Essenziellem fehlt.
Klarheit, Ruhe und der Einsatz weniger ausgewählter natürlicher Materialien, die sich ganz selbstverständlich in den Bestand einfügen und ihm neues Leben und seinen einzigartigen Charakter verleihen.
Was diesen Ort ebenfalls besonders macht, ist die Verbindung zur Natur. Der weitläufige Garten und der Pool bieten sowohl Entspannung als auch Erfrischung und viel Platz zum Spielen, Verweilen und Entspannen.
Es ist großartig, dass man hier frische Zutaten direkt vom Strauch pflücken und Tomaten, Gurken, Kräuter und vieles mehr für das Abendessen ernten kann.
Es ist etwas Besonderes, das Abendessen mit köstlichen, selbst geernteten Zutaten zuzubereiten– für Liebhaber guten und gesunden Essens, aber ebenso für Kinder, die heutzutage selten in diesen Genuss kommen.
Nicht zu vergessen sind die Gastgeber, die uns mit ihrer herzlichen Art und ihrem großartigen Netzwerk begeistert haben. Antoine und Hanh nehmen sich Zeit und haben fantastische Tipps für Restaurants, Ausflugsziele, Strände und kulturelle Veranstaltungen.
Wir werden definitiv wiederkommen und freuen uns schon jetzt auf ein Wiedersehen. Bis dahin wünschen wir Antoine und seiner Familie alles Gute und bedanken uns für die wunderbare Zeit!
We were very lucky to spend our vacation in this extraordinary place and can only warmly recommend it. The farm is a quiet, lively and authentic place that exudes a special atmosphere of French charm and closeness to nature. The apartments have an exceptionally attractive architectural design.
As soon as you enter, you can sense the peace and serenity that emanate from this place. Particularly impressive is the conscious approach to sustainability, which is evident in many details. Reduction to the essentials and sufficiency are the focus, without lacking anything essential.
Clarity, tranquillity and the use of a few selected natural materials that blend naturally into the existing building and give it new life and its unique character.
What also makes this place special is the connection to nature. The extensive garden and pool offer both relaxation and refreshment and plenty of space to play, linger and relax.
It’s great that you can pick fresh ingredients straight from the bush and harvest tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs and much more for dinner.
There is something special about preparing dinner with delicious, home-grown ingredients — for lovers of good, healthy food, but also for children, who rarely get to enjoy it these days.
Not forgetting the hosts, who impressed us with their attitude and their great network. Antoine and Hanh take their time and have fantastic tips for restaurants, excursion destinations, beaches and cultural events.

Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Zeit auf der Farm!
