Gentle hills with cork oaks, pines and olive trees characterise the Alentejo hinterland. In the midst of this Arcadian landscape sits Monte de Santiago – formerly a traditional farmhouse – surrounded by 16 hectares of private land that merges seamlessly into the green expanse.
Distinctive elements, such as the small windows at the rear of the sleek building, the bulbous fireplace and the old gate, which serves as a model for the two arched glass doors, have been deliberately preserved and emphasised. The interplay of vaults, arches and straight lines also continues inside.
The centrepiece of the house is the elongated living and dining room with two seating areas and an open-plan kitchen, which extends across the entire length of the room with its marble worktop. Even the vaulted ceiling matches this linear break. Two bedrooms – one with a double bed, one with bunk beds – and two small bathrooms offer space for a total of four people.
Around the house, extensive outdoor areas extend the living space into the open air – from various seating and dining spots, a sun deck, shady corners under the trees to a large pool that stretches out into the landscape. If you want to leave the peaceful hideaway from time to time, the fishing village of Porto Covo with its beaches and numerous small villages in the immediate vicinity can be reached in around 20 minutes by car. During the day, the bells of the grazing flocks of sheep accompany the idyll, while at night the starry sky spans the landscape. In a round arch, of course.

What to do
Hiking and biking, swimming in the pool as well as swimming, surfing and windsurfing on the coast (approx. 20 minutes away by car) with a variety of beaches such as Porto Covo, Adraga, Morgavel and São Torpes, fishing, walks to the neighbouring villages of São Domingos (2.5 km) and Abela (3 km) with cafés, bars, restaurants and shops or excursions to the villages of Sines and Santiago do Cacém including the castle and well-preserved Roman ruins in Miróbriga or a visit to the Badoca Safari Park.
