The Oberbuchfelder in South Tyrol is a traditional farmhouse ensemble that has been converted into a holiday retreat. Located on a sunny plateau in Lajen, the gateway to the Grödnertal valley, the farm offers breathtaking views of forests, meadows and the majestic Dolomites.
Built in the 15th century, the historic farm has undergone only minor structural changes in over 500 years, and many original features have been preserved to this day. During the renovation, the historic structure was left as untouched as possible: the room layout and use were largely preserved, and everything worth preserving was restored. And yet, the architectural studio Raumdrei has unmistakably brought the farmstead into the present day — with an exciting interplay of materials, colours and almost sculptural elements.
The Gothic smokehouse now serves as a communal kitchen with a self-service bar, where regional wines, snacks and sweets are available. The former pigsty houses a laundry room, and the hayloft and threshing floor have been converted into three holiday apartments: Bauernchalet Heu, Groamet and Pofl.
The farm once produced its own wine, bread and flour – historical tools and the wine press in the former wine cellar tell of the labour of earlier generations. The farmhouse itself contains two further holiday apartments, Hagebutte and Zwetschge, with Gothic bay windows, ornate wooden ceilings, rustic doors and walls dating from the 15th century. Natural stone bathrooms with bathtubs and views, as well as fully equipped kitchens, offer contemporary comfort.
All chalet-appartments are built with local larch wood. Each unit has a balcony or loggia with a view of forests and villages. There is a sauna and a beautiful area for relaxation; upon request, fresh breakfast baskets are delivered to your door daily.
