Ovina’s Haus

Ovina’s Haus

South Tyrolean practicality. Anyone visiting Sand in Taufers is greeted at the entrance to the village by Ovina’s Haus – holiday accommodation in the midst of green meadows and against an impressive mountain backdrop, welcomes its guests with eight suites and special views.
What looks like a hay barn from the outside is a new building full of stylish cosiness inside. The only thing that is old here is tradition. The Café Wiesenhof used to stand here, a meeting place for tourists and locals alike. However, since the structure of the building could no longer be saved, a new house was built. It was designed to reflect the characteristic architecture of the region, to continue inviting guests to take a break and a deep breath. Since then, the new, purist building has stood in the midst of the alpine scenery, looking as if in fact it had always been there.
Above the rendered foundation a building rises, with a dark wood finish, which reflects the shape of the typical local hay barns in a contemporary way. Behind the vertical supports and horizontal struts, an allusion to the earlier drying rack in the barns, large window fronts with generous balconies open up around the house and offer plenty of space to just be.
The eight apartments are designed for two to three people each and each has a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Two of them are mini lofts on the top floor and have a roof terrace, as well as a private sauna.
Whether suite, mini-loft or the house as a whole, whether with a balcony and a sweeping view or on the ground floor with a garden – everyone will find their favourite place in Ovina’s Haus. Guests are welcomed by Mena, the warm-hearted hostess, and can enjoy, as well as other fine details, breakfast, coffee, tea or a glass of wine among the numerous books in the library on the ground floor. A reminder of the former café.
