Apartment Ovina’s Haus in Südtirol, Sand in Taufers / IT – Italy

Apartment Ovina’s Haus

South Tyrolean practicality. Visitors to Sand in Taufers are greeted at the entrance to the village by Ovina’s Haus – a holiday accommodation surrounded by green meadows and impressive mountain scenery, which welcomes its guests with six suites, two mini-lofts and special views.

What looks like a hay barn from the outside is actually a new building in a place steeped in tradition. The Café Wiesenhof, a meeting place for tourists and locals alike, used to stand here. However, as the building was beyond repair, a new house was built. Inspired by the characteristic architecture of the region and with the aim of continuing to welcome guests. Since then, the purist new building has stood in the midst of the alpine scenery, looking as if it had always been there.

Above the plastered base rises a structure made of dark-glazed wood, which takes the form of the typical local construction and develops it in a contemporary way. Behind the vertical supports and horizontal struts, an allusion to the former drying facilities in the barns, large window fronts open up with spacious balconies that surround the house and offer plenty of space to relax.

The eight units, which vary in size, are designed for two to four people and each have a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Two of them are mini-lofts on the top floor and have a roof terrace and a private sauna. The glass roof over the two loft terraces is really special, allowing you to gaze straight up at the stars! It’s not uncommon for the daybeds to be used as beds at night.

Whether it’s a suite, a mini loft or the house as a whole, whether it’s on the balcony with a view or on the ground floor with a garden – everyone will find their favourite spot in Ovina’s house. In the large lounge with a house bar on the ground floor, there are numerous books as well as a great breakfast, coffee, tea or wine. A reminder of the former café and, today as yesterday, the heart of Ovina.
