La Tour Sarrazine in the village of Montaren near the southern French renaissance town of Uzès is a medieval tower dating to the 12th century. The building was restored over the course of five years and transformed into a unique B&B, in which combining authenticity and comfort was of the highest priority. New elements are clearly recognisable as such, but have been designed in a neutral mode that doesn’t steal the limelight from the historic building itself. Wood was chosen as the material for the new elements, such as the balustrades on the balcony and roof terrace. And, out of respect for the historical monument, the interiors were designed in such a way that the outer walls were not altered.
The B&B comprises two guest rooms (each with an en suite bathroom: the White Room on the first floor, which is dressed entirely in white, and the Room du Hourd on the second floor. Thanks to the 1.8 metre thick tower walls, both rooms are pleasantly cool in summer. In colder seasons, underfloor heating provides warmth. The furnishings in the rooms are both simple and elegant and perfectly complement the historical substance of the building. All guests have access to the library and the dining room, where breakfast is served. In summer, breakfast is served in the garden or on the terrace by the pool.
The holiday home Maison De Joyeuse is also located on the tower grounds. Built on the foundations of two old neighbouring buildings, this house features a façade of wooden slats that create a visual link with the wooden elements of the tower. This 92 square metre house can be accessed via a wooden walkway. On the ground floor there is the living room with a fireplace and sofa bed as well as the kitchen and dining area. On the upper floor you will find the bedroom with a view of the tower and garden. A staircase leads up to a small gallery and to the 20 square metre roof terrace with views over the village rooftops and up to the castle.
In summer, the entire property can be rented as a whole (including a further bedroom on the third floor and the roof terrace of the tower).
