Honour the old, welcome the new: built in 1807 in the midst of lush mountain meadows between the valley and the alpine pastures, the Vorsäßhütte, which was in need of renovation, was rebuilt according to the old model and today serves up to fourteen guests as a hideaway with an inviting mountain backdrop.
The house was originally used for three-stage farming, in which the alpine pasture was first raised to a medium altitude level – the Vorsäss. In order to preserve the historic character, the over 200-year-old wooden knitted walls were removed, processed and reused, the building was insulated and the façade as well as the roof were covered with the regionally typical wooden shingles. The old furniture was renovated and preserved as far as possible.
The result is a timber house with authentic charm and contemporary comfort.
The former room structure was retained as far as possible. On the ground floor, a homey kitchen with a stove and a lounge provide for shared moments, upstairs are the four bedrooms and on both floors are three bathrooms, an anteroom as well as a washing machine and dryer. The attic features a further bedroom, a bathroom and a lounge with seating area. The stable wing is still used for farming during the Vorsäß in September.
Important to know: Those who come to visit in winter must, or rather may, cover the last few metres on foot, while the luggage is brought into the house by snowmobile. But it’s best to leave the car in the car park anyway and start the deceleration with a short walk.
