Surrounded by hills, Kambra house is situated in a small Slovenian village not far from the Italian border and the Adriatic coast. Stones characterise not only the karst landscape, but also the building, which from the inside appears to be growing from the rocks. When converting the 400-year-old stable, great care was taken to preserve the character of the house and to emphasise its unique features. The stone walls and openings and the oak roof structure have been preserved in their original state, while modern elements made of concrete, wood and steel have been added. The house is designed as an open-plan space that extends over three levels. The only interior door is the bathroom door, which can be hidden in the kitchen cupboards. The functional areas are distributed over different levels: cooking and eating is done downstairs, the living area is located above, and the sleeping area is under the roof.
Opposite the old stable is a concrete cube, which accommodates another bedroom with bathroom, a utility room and a summer kitchen. The cube is framed by a pergola and is integrated into the garden by the wine overgrowing it. The garden is situated between the two buildings and feels like an additional room outdoors—with an external kitchen, dining area on the terrace and a hot tub.

Why we like this house
We appreciate the wonderful transformation of an old stable into a refuge with an ambience that is both homely and cool; plus the location in a region where there is a lot to discover, but which itself is not yet so well-known.
This house is great for
Couples, families, holidays with friends, foodies, lovers of wine, sports and culture.
