Spin a sailor’s yarn and let yourself drift. In the Remise Wieck on the Baltic Sea peninsula Darß, which has been converted into a holiday home, the day may well turn out different to what you expected. After its extensive renovation, the coach house of an old captain’s house, both built around 1850 and considered a heritage listed ensemble, offers modern comfort in a historical ambience. In the small holiday home, with its large garden full of old trees, on the edge of the village of Wieck, just 200 metres from the Bodstedt Bodden, up to six people will find space to relax and discover their surroundings.
The architecture is derived from the heritage protected existing buildings. All the original walls have been preserved, except for an opening that adds a spacious dining area with a long table to the kitchen. Also new are the numerous doors and windows that fill the house with airy brightness from the ground floor to the pointed roof. On the ground floor, there is the kitchen-living room, the hallway, two bedrooms and a small annexe that dates back to GDR times and contains two bathrooms plus a sauna. On the first floor, next to the third bedroom, the light-filled living room opens up, a minimalist, cosy island full of space for gatherings as well as quiet contemplation. Everything is immersed in a harmonious play of colours, in which the fixtures, furniture and tiled floor correspond with each other.
While the exposed half-timbering inside and the black wooden cladding outside are reminiscent of old times, the former thatched roof had to be replaced by sheet metal due to building regulations. However, this lends the characteristic cubature a harmonious new interpretation. Although the Remise adjoins the garden of the likewise renovated captain’s house, both holiday homes guarantee complete privacy. A place to sail towards timelessness with family or friends.
