Ferienhaus Smart Wood House in Salzburg (Bundesland), Lungau, Tamsweg / AT – Austria

Holiday home Smart Wood House

The Smart Wood House in Salzburg’s Lungau Region is characterized by a combination of straight-lined architecture, innovative building technology and natural, regional materials. The low-energy house which nestles into the slope is clad from head to toe in Lungau mountain larch: the roof is covered with wooden shingles while the outer walls were constructed of sawn-up timber boards. Straw has been used to insulate the house and stones excavated during the construction process were reincorporated as a natural stone wall. Even inside you will find nature everywhere: the scent of wood fills the air, as the rooms are decked out entirely in larch wood. Large panoramic windows open the house out to the sunny valley and offer spectacular views of the mountain scenery.

The 160 sqm living space is spread over four floors: the entrance level features a wellness area with a sauna and studio that can be used as a seminar room or bedroom. On the first floor you will find the living, dining and cooking area with a fireplace at its centre that even offers cooking functions. The second floor is the sleeping level, complete with three bedrooms. And on the top level beneath the roof you will find a play and chill area.

What to do

The Smart Wood House is located in the authentic and vibrant village of Tamswegs on an expansive property that features a 400-year-old granary – which can be used as a barbecue hut in the summer – its own natural climbing wall, a herb garden and a wildflower meadow. The village centre is within a few minutes walk. The village is an ideal starting point for nature experiences and sports activities such as ski touring, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking, rafting, alpine hiking, horseback riding, golf and climbing.

Why we like this house

Modern timber architecture and a healthy atmosphere. Nature takes centre stage thanks to the generous use of natural materials, the consistently simple design and well-crafted connection between inside and out.
