Between the expanse of Austnesfjord and the imposing Higravstinden, the highest mountain in Lofoten, Black Aurora Nook defies the harsh landscape. A remote place where nature takes the leading role. Also in terms of architecture. The spectacular scenery of the island of Austvågøya is torn – between steep cliffs, deep fjords, wild coasts and lonely beaches, bright summers and dark winters.
Black Aurora Nook is a holiday home in timber construction. Black, clear, robust on the outside, light, cosy and warm on the inside. The simple cubature plays with the typical shapes and dimensions of the surroundings: a base flanked by two opposing structures with monopitch roofs. The different ceiling heights of two to five and a half metres not only create an exciting spatial experience, they are also reminiscent of the changeable Lofoten Islands.
The building is designed as a single space divided into two rectangular areas. To the west is the entrance area, which merges into the spacious living and dining room with open kitchen, fireplace and cosy sitting area. The fjord opens up directly in front of the huge window front. You can even see the open sea from here.
Two steps to the right and left of the kitchen area lead to a master bedroom and a sleeping alcove, each with a double bed. The bathroom is accessible from both rooms, with a view of the majestic Higravstinden. The two gallery levels under the shed roofs are accessible via steps or via a ladder and offer another sleeping area as well as a lookout – perfect for watching sea eagles and the northern lights.
The interior design is comfortable and versatile, as all rooms can be used together or separately thanks to sliding doors. The entire fittings are made of the same untreated wood, from the wall panelling to the built-in furniture.

What to do
Trekking and skiing tours start right from the doorstep, as well as the dance of the Northern Lights; enjoy nature, fishing trips, boat trips, sea eagle safari, canoeing, day trips to fishing villages such as Henningsvaer or Kabelvag or a boat trip on the Trollfjord. The nearest grocery store is in Svolvaer, the capital of Lofoten (approx. 30 km away).
