A garden of Mediterranean trees and flowering shrubs in a small village in the hinterland of the Algarve: in the middle of it all is Casa Linear – a farmhouse renovated with a great deal of sense and flair, looking out over the sea that sparkles in the distance. A straightforward homage to simplicity.
Halfway between the white sandy beaches and the rolling countryside of the Serra do Caldeirão, the hidden Casa Linear is a good base from which to discover the south of Portugal. Located at the end of a narrow road, the whitewashed holiday home opens out into a paradisiacal garden of olive, citrus, fig and almond trees, jasmine and lavender. The building with its monopitch roof, thick walls, wooden ceiling and terracotta tiles is typical of the houses in the region. The deliberately integrated stone-wax basins in the kitchen and bathroom also still tell of their former use. After the renovation, the result is an atmospheric combination of authenticity and modern purism.
The clearly laid out yet spacious holiday home offers room for four people and a small child. The basic structure has been retained, except for a metal structure under the high wooden roof truss, which is accessed via an open, bricked staircase and on which the living room is located. The eat-in kitchen with a large dining area and fireplace is an inviting place for convivial dinners. Just like the covered terrace with a wide view over the countryside to the sea. Both bedrooms have their own en suite bathroom and are separately located, one of them with direct access to the garden with its numerous shady spots and an outdoor shower. Accompanied by the song of birds and cicadas during the day and the endless starry sky at night.
What to do
Enjoying the peace and quiet, hiking and cycling, swimming, surfing or sailing on the beautiful beaches of the Algarve (approx. 20 km away), kayaking, climbing, paragliding, day trips to the picturesque towns of Silves, Faro and Monchique and the villages of Alte and Fuzeta or to the Ria Formosa nature reserve, regional culinary delights, local markets, exhibitions and cultural events.
Why we like this house
A calming, authentic place to relax and explore.
This house is great for
Couples, friends and families
Sustainability
Use of old building fabric and natural materials, conscious decision not to have a pool and air conditioning, cooling thanks to the thick walls and stone floors, ecological sewage treatment plant that treats 90 percent of the waste water for watering the garden
