Meadows and fields surround the Grams Gard farm, situated on a hill in the southern Swedish province of Skåne and just a short distance from the Baltic Sea. The 1851 farmhouse with its three wings has been lavishly restored by Swedish-British architects Ia Hjärre and Andy Nettleton. Its modern additions – the new black tin roof with large dormer windows and oak-framed sliding windows on the ground floor – are in perfect harmony with the sober design of the old building.
There are three residential units grouped around the cobblestone inner courtyard that features an old chestnut tree. The 300 square metre main apartment is the architects’ family apartment – which is also rented out to guests. This apartment has a generous, modern ambience. The dining area and the living room on the ground floor are open up to the gables and come with large windows overlooking the courtyard and the countryside. A concrete staircase and a gallery lead up to the three bedrooms in the attic.
On the ground floor of the side wing – the former farmers’ homestead – you will find a further 90 square metre apartment, which has a more traditional character. It features a living room, kitchen, and two bedrooms. A 50 square metre studio has been built in the former hayloft, which can be reached via a modern steel staircase. Its open space contains a small kitchen with a dining area and double bed. Through two large dormer windows the view extends far into the landscape.
There is even a small 25 sqm cabin on the site, which is also rented out to holiday guests.
What to do
The farm is located in a quiet spot yet close to the Baltic Sea and the coastal towns of Simrishamn and Brantevik. The Baltic Sea can be reached by bicycle in five minutes. The beaches of Sandhammaren are 25 minutes away by car. Walks, beach (swimming, sailing, etc.), cycling, golf, fishing, art and culture.
Why we like this house
A great example of a successful conversion of an old farm into beautiful holiday accommodation. A wonderful place to relax and unwind, and a good base from which to explore the Österlen region.
This house is great for
Depending on the apartment you choose it’s perfect for couples, families or holidays with friends (if the entire property is rented). The main apartment and the barn can also be rented for events or as a photo-shoot location.
