The listed Kerkow manor house was built around 1900 in the Heimatstil style – an architectural language that revived traditional, regional building forms. With its striking corner turrets, the building makes a confident statement in the village of Kerkow, nestled in the heart of the Uckermark countryside.
Shortly after the First World War, sheep and cattle were bred here, and later the GDR took over the agricultural business as a state-owned estate. After reunification, the interior of the house was functionally renovated and divided into small holiday apartments.
The current owners run the Kerkow estate as an organic farm with cattle breeding, a butchery and its own farm shop – supplemented by eight guest apartments. Between 2022 and 2024, architect Ferdinand von Hohenzollern and interior designer Susanne Kaiser carried out a comprehensive renovation in line with conservation guidelines, restoring the exterior of the manor house to its original condition. In the process, they reconstructed the turret, which was destroyed by fire in the 1930s, the bat dormers and the corner loggia on the courtyard side.
On the upper floor, the character of the manor house has been restored, and spacious rooms have been created for one- and one-bedroom apartments. The rooms in the attic extend up to the roof ridge and open sleeping areas have been added, which are accessible via a staircase or ladder. The turret is open to the top and contains a bedroom with a sweeping view over the village and the Brandenburg countryside. The ground floor now houses a library with a fireplace and a communal kitchen, which can be used for catering at events as well as by the guests. The basement features a wellness area with a sauna and an additional holiday apartment.
In the adjacent granary and on the ground floor of the manor house, the Spaced Out project adds an extra dimension to the farm: in a relaxed atmosphere and in dialogue with the rural surroundings, changing exhibitions by international artists are presented.
