Plenty of nature, few people: In the Uckermark region in north-eastern Germany, you can easily leave everyday life behind. The quiet rural surroundings are ideal for relaxing, yet also for concentrated and creative work. Both are possible at Haus Sankt Unterholz in the village of Kraatz, which is situated in the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park. The former stable on the site of a typical settlement cottage from the 1930s was renovated according to ecological standards and converted into a holiday and seminar house. On 150 square metres and distributed over two levels, the house offers room for 9 people. When furnishing the interiors, emphasis was placed on sustainable, fair and, as far as possible, regional furniture production. Restored pieces from different eras are combined with modern and functional design.
You can cook together in the well-equipped kitchen and eat at the long table that seats 12 people. The 45 sqm main room with a fireplace provides space for all kinds of activities: chilling out or reading on the sofa, working, talking or painting at the large table. The furniture can be used flexibly or even be moved away, so that you can sleep here or make room for yoga sessions. There are four double bedrooms on the upper floor. These are—just like the two bathrooms—each designed in a different colour. The house has a 600-square-metre garden and a generous wooden terrace. Here you can barbecue or relax in the deck chairs while the children play in the sandbox.
What to do
Hiking, cycling, swimming, rowing, sailing, fishing, visiting historical towns in the area (including Bülowssiege – the Manor of German Romanticism, Boitzenburg Castle, Carwitz – the home village of German writer Hans Fallada)
