Hotel Gasthof Krone

Hotel Gasthof Krone

The traditional Hotel Gasthof Krone is centrally located on the village square of von Hiltisau in Austria’s Bregenz Forest. This typical log building from 1838 was originally built as a courthouse, but has been used as an inn for 170 years. At the beginning of the 2000s, architect Bernardo Bader carefully renovated the building with great respect for its old structure and extended it with six rooms. Its new, modern features are clearly recognisable, but do not form a stark contrast; instead these are harmonious additions to the old. The skill of local craftsmen can be seen in every detail in the dining rooms and each hotel room.

The 27 hotel rooms are divided into three categories: the Bregenzerwald and Werkraum rooms are characterised by straight lines and simple elegance; their furniture is made by regional craftsmen. Somewhat more traditional are the classic rooms, which were designed in the late 1970s by Leopold Kaufmann, one of the pioneers of timber construction in Vorarlberg.

The sauna house in the garden, built in 2018, with its unusual multi-unit form, is a counterpoint to the traditional inn. This wooden structure with a granite floor and black glass roof includes a sanarium, a Finnish sauna, showers, and a massage room.

The hotel not only offers award-winning architecture, but also excellent cuisine and literary events for guests interested in culture. The hotel also publishes an in-house edition with stories about the hotel and its surroundings.

Judith & Gerd Mense sagt:
