When you wake up in the morning at Knoten House on the edge of Thy National Park, you feel immediately connected to the elements: the rugged beauty of the dunes and lakes stretches out before the panoramic windows, the sea rushes just a few steps away, the roof is green and blooming above your head, and wooden walls create a cosy atmosphere on all sides. The building, with its recycled wooden façade and large glass surfaces, blends in well with its surroundings. In the background, the former fishing village of Agger offers West Jutland charm and slow-motion variety.
The architecture is characterised by clean lines, giving the building a calm presence. A place of retreat and a modern interpretation of 1970s Danish summer house culture – minimalist, functional and yet full of light and warmth. The foundations of the dilapidated previous building were used for the construction, as was its timber. The roof is green and designed to provide shade in summer and sufficient sunlight in winter.
Handcrafted by the owner, the details of the interior design – from the doors and cupboards to the kitchen – are finished to a high standard and underline the emphasis on durability and simple aesthetics. This also includes the bathroom walls, which are plastered with tadelakt, a traditional Moroccan limestone coating with a smooth, stone-like surface.
The spacious floor plan of the house offers room for six guests and features an open-plan living, cooking and dining area as well as three double bedrooms. One of the bedrooms can also be used flexibly as a playroom or office by folding away the bed. Knoten House is furnished in a minimalist style with Scandinavian furniture and offers many cosy corners for reading and enjoying the view. Thanks to the three terraces, there is a sunny spot at almost any time of day. You can then head to the beach 500 metres away with your surfboard, walk or cycle into the vastness of Thy, and afterwards enjoy a warm or cold outdoor shower, sit in front of the fireplace or hop into the bathtub.
What to do
